Relocating? Home Inspectors in North Carolina

Part of our Home Inspector Referral Network for buyers and agents who move between states.

Buying a home in North Carolina from Florida (or anywhere else) means hiring an inspector you have never met, on a deadline set by your contract. This page explains how North Carolina regulates home inspectors, how to check a license yourself, and lists the companies we have verified.

How North Carolina licenses home inspectors

North Carolina licenses home inspectors through the North Carolina Home Inspector Licensure Board (HILB), which is housed in the Office of State Fire Marshal. Applicants must complete a Board-approved education program and pass the state exam, and the Home Inspector Licensure Act and the Board’s rules set the standards of practice and code of ethics.

How to verify a North Carolina home inspector

Use the HILB Directory on the Office of State Fire Marshal website to confirm the inspector’s license before you book.

Tips for hiring an inspector from out of state

  • Ask how the inspector handles crawl spaces and attics; ask what access they need so the inspection is not limited on the day.
  • Confirm the inspector's North Carolina license number appears on the report and the contract.
  • Book early: your inspection window is set by your purchase contract, and it is easy to lose days when you are scheduling from another state.

North Carolina listings

We have not listed any North Carolina inspectors yet. We only add a company after we verify its license on the North Carolina Home Inspector Licensure Board (HILB) website, and this page will show the verified companies here, in alphabetical order, with their license number and the date we checked it.

Listing is free and based on our published membership criteria. No one pays to be listed, no referral fees are paid or received, and no listing depends on a link back. A listing is not a guarantee of anyone’s work. Spotted an outdated detail? Email inspections@qreinspections.com.
